The Name Morunda?
Morunda is the name of the family property on which Philip Carrigan (founder and Representative Director) was raised on the eastern side of Armidale, New South Wales, Australia. The name was chosen to honor Philip’s parents, Maxwell and Bridgid Carrigan.
The Morunda name is synonymous with passion, dedication, and simply getting the job done.

Meet Our Team
Philip’s work in life science recruitment began back in 2001 and established Morunda K.K. in 2011. With 17 years of executive consulting experience under his belt, Philip is known for recruiting top talent ranging from marketing and clinical development managers to directors for multinational companies in the life science industry – an active thought leader in life science search.
He has written more than 100 published articles on leadership, HR, and industry trends as a monthly contributing writer for the leading Japanese industry newsletter, Pharma Japan and has been everywhere and on the scene in local networking industry events. Philip has personally placed more than 200 executives throughout his career, making him easily recognizable as one of Asia’s leading recruiters in the life science industry.
In his life before recruitment, Philip was a teacher in Australia before he came to Tokyo in 1997.
Adam first came to Japan in 2002 while working alongside Philip Carrigan at his first company, and he has been working in search ever since. Adam is especially focused on senior-level positions in the pharmaceuticals and biotechnology sectors. For proof that Adam is one of Japan’s top recruiters, just ask the life science leaders who regularly seek him out for his bottomless knowledge of the industry and his commonsense consulting advice.
Although Adam focuses on director-level positions and above, he also takes a personal interest in rare diseases, firms servicing pharma and device manufacturers, and smaller Asian operations that are just getting started. Originally trained in finance, Adam has many financial and operational management roles under his belt in the UK’s National Health Service, as well as with a boutique consulting firm.
He was directly scouted by Philip Carrigan in 2016 with the challenge of establishing and growing the Commercial & Clinical Medical Device team in Japan. After 2 years, the device business developed a top-level network of contacts and successes within the senior manager, director to BU level position while covering a wide number of clienteles from multinational corporations to smaller and midsize companies.
Originally from New Zealand, Gregory graduated from IPU New Zealand and moved to Japan in 2013 to study Japanese in Tokyo. After a year he moved on to work at a local Japan firm in the international sales & E-commerce/social media marketing area for 2 years before he joined Morunda.
Originally from Singapore, she holds a Bachelor in Arts, Major in Marketing from the University of Canberra, Australia. She has extensive experience in Sales, Marketing and the Service industry and has worked in Singapore, Hong Kong & Tokyo. Gladys additionally spent several years living in Dubai UAE whilst working as cabin crew for Emirates Airline. She speaks Mandarin and English. Gladys has been living in Japan since 2008. Gladys founded Morunda Asia in July 2013 to serve the growing demand for top talent across the Asia Pacific market. Morunda Asia specializes in placing challenging to fill roles in Sales, Marketing and Research and Development and is based in Singapore. Morunda understands that the pharmaceutical and biotechnology businesses around the world are grappling with declining R&D productivity. Singapore is the leading logistics hub globally, has world class intellectual property protection and is now Asia’s fastest-growing bio-cluster. Singapore additionally presents attractive strategic partnership / new medicines development opportunities with research institutes, corporate labs and public hospitals and future therapies that can be customized for regional and global markets.
Jason has almost a decade of hands-on executive search experience as the practice director (and top performer) for pharmaceuticals and life science/global technology at his former company, Jason has successfully placed numerous mid-senior and senior leadership positions. He bolstered his talent for executive placement with training in SPIN and Consultative Selling and spent a lot of time honing his experience in behavioral-based and competency-based interviews. Before executive search took center stage, Jason stockpiled 20 years of corporate experience with IBM, Oracle, SCS-Temasek Group etc. where he led companies in various senior roles, including IBM country manager and sales director. He won Oracle Sales Excellence Quota Club awards from 1997 to 1999 and was a worldwide top 10% nominee for the prestigious Oracle President’s Club. Jason graduated with a BSc (Honors) major in business management from University College Dublin and earned a diploma in sales and marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
